There is a gutter on the side of the house which has broken free from the clip that holds it tight to the house. I did stand outside and move it around a bit, hitting it against the house. Well that's bizarre thing to stumble across when you're browsing Reddit! The photo used to illustrate this comment was one I took a year or so ago when I was collecting pictures for a set on my blog I didn't know what they were called so referred to them as braces, but I was soon corrected as a brace pushes outward, but these plates pull inward. The circular plate-like form .the flap is on the side of the fan connected to a duct. if there is wind blowing, the flap could open and cause noises. i would check if the noise is coming from the flap opening and closing . Bathroom roof vents usually come with a small strip of foam to place in the spot where the flap touches the metal. 99.9% of the time this strip of foam . Has a 1" depth mounting in the back, and the installer screwed the duct and vent together from the attic side; I went online and found the exact same vent with the same dimensions, and bought it; I also purchased a stainless steel version which has a different face size and slightly different screw distance. I would rather have metal than plastic.
